If you give them wings and teach them how to fly,
you cannot be sad when they don’t look back
as they disappear into the sky.
You just have to decide
whether you will be there at all,
when they get scorched by the heavens
and begin to fall.
Perhaps you can just watch them die
and then teach someone else to fly.
For teaching is your reason to live.
flight is the gift you have to give.
